NM Universo fans are dying to know more about Marisol Flores. Can you share your story with our readers?
Since a noticeably young age I loved to sing and dance. My mom noticed my talent and put me in folklorico dancing. My first performance was when I was seven years old. However, I gravitated toward singing and slowly began to focus on my vocals. Initially my mom asked a cousin of mine to instruct me in singing lessons but unfortunately, she said no and at age seven I started taking singing and guitar lessons with a Mr. Raymond Gallegos. My first favorite singer was Gloria Estefan, I fell in love with Miami Sound Machine. I would listen to Gloria Estefan cassettes, often with headphones on, always singing along. My favorite song was “The Rhythm is Going to Get You.” Later I began to fall in love with Selena’s style of dance and music. The beauty of Selena’s performance very much inspired me to pursue music.
What was it like to audition for Tengo Talento, Mucho Talento?
The audition was in February 2020 at Club Cananas in Albuquerque, NM. My friend Diandre Aragon attended the audition with me. Initially I was nervous and wanted to leave because I felt that my Spanish would not be good enough for the show but Diandre inspired me to stay by telling me “you are not going anywhere,” and that I would do good once I got up on stage. It was a long wait. All the auditionees received tickets, when my ticket was called, I went on stage and sang “Que Creias,” by Selena. When the performance was done I knew I was going to pass because I received a standing ovation by the audience and they were chanting “otra, otra, otra.” When I was leaving a newscaster chased me out the door and told me I was her favorite performer that evening I believe she was from Estrella TV. I had to wait a few weeks for Tengo Talento’s answer, but they eventually let me know I passed and was scheduled to go to Los Angeles for stage one.
Tell us what it was like to be perform on Tengo Talento, Mucho Talento.
I went in with a confident mindset, passion and the song flowed from my heart. I did not expect to receive a no from one of the judges and I was hoping to have a constructive explanation as to why I received the no but I am extremely happy I passed to the next level and thank all the judges for their insights. I am working hard to win over the judge that said no and receive four yeses next time around.
