Albuquerque, NM – July 8, 2021- Excited to return to our mission, Mariachi Spectacular de Albuquerque, a member organization of the Atrisco Companies, is proud to announce its 2021 Mariachi Spectacular Virtual event.
The Mariachi Spectacular will look different this year, with an all virtual Mariachi experience. The conference will consist of three parts: Clinicals, Showcase, and an All Star Concert.
The All-Star Instrument Clinicals take place on Friday, July 16, followed by an All-Star Virtual Q&A session. That evening, the Virtual Showcase Competition will be presented.
The Conference’s main event takes place Saturday, July 17 with the All-Star Spectacular Concert. This event features Master Class All-Star Mariachis, the “next generation of master instructors and performers we call mariachi torch carriers.” The 13 members of this Master Class All-Stars Mariachi ensemble were hand-selected from a pool of over 300 previous Mariachi Spectacular instructors and notable masterclass members from previous years. Selection criteria included participation in Mariachi Spectacular music workshops as a master student or instructor, as well as a continued career path in mariachi music as a performer, educator, researcher, recording artist, arranger, composer or ensemble director.
In addition to thriving in mariachi music, members of this diverse group have excelled in areas such as K-12 education, law, engineering, ethnomusicology, university professorships and music industry professions. As such, The Mariachi Spectacular de Albuquerque Master Class All-Stars embody a testament to the life-changing effects of the Mariachi Spectacular’s music workshops in the United States, where students and participants get to obtain first-hand instruction and guidance from current and more experienced older international mariachi icons.
The Mariachi Spectacular All-Stars will present prerecorded virtual mariachi music education workshops and deliver a hybrid in-person/live-streamed concert on Saturday, July 17th, 7 p.m. at Atrisco Heritage Academy High School.
All events including Clinicals, Showcase, and the All Star Concert, will be broadcast on the internet FREE to all interested parties. Some class registration requirements are necessary but all events including Music Instruction and Music Performances are free internet broadcasts courtesy of the City of Albuquerque, New Mexico Arts, Urban Enhancement Fund and other supporters.
